Lily Cooper, Lily Allen as was, strides into the Riding House Café on Great Titchfield Street clutching a copy of Gina Ford’s Contented Little Baby book.
She puts it on the table, then whips it straight back off again, placing it on the banquette. She looks furtively out of the window. Would she rather be somewhere else? She protectively strokes her bump; she is six months pregnant.

In The Defence Of A Housewife by Lily Cooper
She may be a 26-year-old superstar, but Lily Allen always knew she would be happiest at home, pinny on, baking a cake and polishing her new sewing machine. Have you got a problem with that? she asks
I bought a sewing machine this morning. It’s a Janome JP720. I got it from the John Lewis website. Of course. According to the blurb, it’s small in size but big on features. A bit like me. It’s also fully computerised, has an automatic needle threader (crucial, that bit, as my fellow machinists will know), a maximum speed controller, a needle up/down feature and lock-stitch facility. It’s white. Because it only comes in white.
